About Nellie
Nellie Harasimowicz
LCSW, CASAC
I have experience working with individuals, couples and families dealing with addiction and unmanageability in their lives. I have worked as a senior counselor at Saint Vincent's Hospital in the Outpatient Addiction Recovery program. As a Credentialed Alcoholism Substance Abuse Counselor, I have supported clients at many different stages of their journey: from detoxification, to inpatient rehabilitation, to outpatient programs, continuing care and individual therapy.
I am passionate about offering support to those struggling with addiction issues, and I welcome all clients of all backgrounds to my private practice, Recover & Thrive.
My Approach
My approach is strengths-based and solution-focused. I value the importance of integrating mind, body, and spirit in any process of change, and I respect each client’s emotional and spiritual journey. I use cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, and collaborative problem solving. In addressing trauma, I combine sensorimotor psychotherapy with internal family systems therapy. I believe in the potential for healing and growth in all people, and I seek to create a safe and sacred space for clients to become empowered and to embrace positive change
My Background
I am Franco-American and am comfortable working in English or French and with multicultural clients. I graduated from Duke University and completed a Masters from NYU and an advanced Masters in Social Work from Fordham University, with a specialty in Mental Health and Chemical Dependency. I spent the past 5 years working in a psychiatric hospital, primarily counseling individuals who are dually diagnosed with substance abuse disorders, mood disorders, and trauma. I continue to regularly facilitate psychotherapy groups at Saint Vincent’s Hospital and collaborate with the addiction treatment community in Westchester.
